Outraged at J&K Board of School Education (BOSE) exam schedule, the students of class 10th and 12th have threatened to take their demand for putting off the exams to streets. The students had been asking JKBOSE to delay the exams by a few weeks to November so that they could compensate for the loss of nearly a month of academic session to protests during the summer this year.
JKBOSE on Wednesday issued datasheet for class 10th, 11th and 12 exams wherein it has decided to hold exams from the last week of October. The decision enraged the students who had already sought deferment of exams up to the second week of November.
“The government is playing with the career of thousands of students by holding exams from November because our syllabus has not been completed in schools,” said Syed Faheem, a class 12th student of Srinagar.
Greater Kashmir received scores of phone calls and emails from students who demanded deferment of exams till second week of November citing non-completion of students in schools.
The students accused the government of putting students in despair for holding civic body polls as per their own convenience. “Students are frustrated as we had already put forth our demand for deferment of exams unto mid-November because we had less number of working days in schools due to which our syllabus is incomplete,” said Seerat a class 12th student.
The students threatened to commit suicide if the government didn’t postpone the exams to mid-November.
“Most of the students are depressed and are not able to concentrate on their studies as the government has illogically decided to hold the exams from October month,” said another student, Shujat Andrabi.
“We are not yet prepared for our exams because we are yet to complete a major chunk of syllabus in schools,” said Absssar, a student from class 11th.
While the BOSE had already proposed to hold exams in October, the director school education Kashmir (DSEK) had sought deferment of exams till the second week of November citing non-completion of syllabus in schools.
DSEK had written to secretary JKBOSE to defer the exams as the students didn’t get adequate number of working days in schools due to law and order situation in Kashmir.
“The government itself closed schools for almost a month when schools reopened after winter vacations in March. But it seems authorities are much concerned about elections than our career,” said Madiha, a class 10th student.
The students said the government wants to accommodate the exams dates between the Panchayat and ULB polls. Earlier, advisor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai was quoted as having said that the feasible time for holding exams was in between October 16 to Novembel6.
The students threatened to stage protests if the government didn’t reschedule the class 10th to 12th annual exams from mid-November. “We have no other option than to hit streets to press for our demands,” the students said.
Chairperson JKBOSE Veena Pandita ruled out any chances of deferment of exams. “The date sheet has been finalized and we cannot change it now,” Pandita said

Students rue delay in Exam Date announcement for JKBOSE 10th, 12th classes

The indecisiveness of JK Board of School Education and School Education Department to come out with the dates for the annual exams of class 10th and 12th has increased the level of anxiety and worry among the student community of Kashmir.
Earlier, the JKBOSE had proposed to conduct the annual examination for class 10 and 12 from the second week of October. However, the students had opposed the proposal and sought the deferment of exams till the month of November
Also, Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) G N Itoo shot a letter to secretary JKBOSE asking him to reschedule the class 10th and 12th exams from the first week of November
“Due to law and order problems in the valley, the syllabus is yet to be covered fully as per the requirement and most of the students have started feeling panicky. In the larger interest of students the examination for class 10th and 12th may be conducted from first and second week of November,” Itoo stated in his letter.
In the wake of this, the BOSE authorities decided to defer the exams to the third week of November in order to provide some relief to the students.
“Student community is suffering a lot because of the delay by government in issuing date sheet for examinations. Given the delay by BOSE, rumours are being spread regarding the commencement .u r at jk up date s.of exams which has confused the students. BOSE should clear the air by notifying final dates for the exams,” said Amir Rafi, a class 12th student.
This year, high and higher secondary schools remained closed for 32 days during the two months from March 05 to May 05 in the wake of the student protests that erupted across the valley. The frequent closure of schools delayed the completion of syllabus of students.
Also, the advisor to the Governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, recently stated that the
feasible time for holding class 10th and 12th exams was during .u r at jk up date s.the months of October and November. Following this, JKBOSE proposed dates for the examination of both the classes and submitted the proposal to the government for its approval
“But the dates are yet to be approved which has delayed the publication of final date sheet for examination of both the classes,’ an official in BOSE said.
According to an official, the date sheet for all the exams was finalised by BOSE authorities in past years but this year the datasheet has to be approved by the state administration in view of upcoming Panchayat and ULB elections.
“A meeting was to be convened by Advisor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai on Monday with BOSE .u r at jk up date s.authorities to approve the dates but the meeting didn’t happen due to some reasons,” the official said. Secretary JKBOSE, Rayees Ahmad said the dates for class 10th and 12th annual exams will be finalized within two days.

Shall perform twenty five bent knee sit ups within 90 seconds;
Shall, from a completely extended arm position, pull the body upward so as to chin the horizontal bar being grasped by the hand, palm away, a total of five consecutive times;
Shall, when given a beam secured to the level floor and masonry seven metres long by seven to ten cms wide and given a length of fire-hose weighing atleast 17 kgs. Shall walk the length of beam, carrying the length of the hose, without falling off or stepping off the beam
