Massive search operation launched after drone sighting along IB in Kathua

Security forces launched a massive search operation in several forward areas along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district following information about a suspected drone activity, officials said.

However, nothing objectionable was found during the joint operation by police, CRPF, BSF and SOG on Friday, they said.

The operation was launched after villagers near Talli hamlet in Marheen tehsil of Hiranagar sub-division informed that they spotted a drone flying along the IB late Thursday night, the officials said.–(PTI)

50 militants killed in last one year in Kulgam

Fifty militants including 10 Pakistani militants have been killed in Kulgam district in the last one year.

Addressing a press conference here, SSP Kulgam, G V Sundeep Chakravarthy, as per the news agency said that security forces have been able to eliminate 50 militants including 10 Pakistani nationals in the district.

He said that most of the killed militants belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit and their sole aim is to spread terror in the Valley. Replying to a question, he said that their sole aim is to spread terror, recruit local youth in militant ranks and spoil their mindset.

“Our forces are working hard to zero in on them and ensure clean operations to eliminate them and prevent youth from joining them.

We will eliminate their base to ensure peace in the area,” he added. Three militants of JeM outfit were killed in two separate encounter in Kulgam district over the last two days—(KNO)

Smart Electric Metering in Jammu-Srinagar to be done by Mar 2023; says CS

At the Civil Secretariat today Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta chaired a review meeting of the power sector in Jammu & Kashmir.

The Chief Secretary was informed about the status of 1.15 lakh smart meters being installed in Jammu and Srinagar cities in addition to the additional 6 lakh meters to be installed subsequently.

It was informed that 91% of the installed smart meters are already communicating and more than 64 thousand of those meters have been billed by June 2022.

Chief Secretary said that J&K is being given utmost priority in the installation of smart meters and stressed that all these 7 lakh meters must be installed and be made operational by March 2023.

He also called for repairing dysfunctional meters putting an end to the flat-rate system of billing by the department.

A top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad was killed and two civilians and a soldier were injured in an encounter in Batpora village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district today.

A police official said that militant commander of JeM identified as Abu Hurrairah was killed in an encounter tonight. He said that he was involved in planning in several militant attacks in Kashmir.

Mainly dry weather forecast in J&K

Weather department on Tuesday forecast mainly dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir during next 24 hours.

A meteorological department official here told GNS that isolated light rain and thunder was expected in the next two days.

As regards the mercury, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 11.6°C against 14.6°C on the previous night. The temperature was 1.2°C above normal for the summer capital during this time of the year, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 9.4°C against 9.0°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.5°C above normal there, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 6.8°C against 6.4°C on the previous night and it was 0.6°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort, he said.

Kokernag recorded a low of 10.7°C against 9.0°C the previous night and it was 1.1°C below normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 6.0°C against 4.0°C on the previous night. It was 1.0°C below normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 10.0°C against 12.6°C on the previous night, the official said. It was 0.7°C above normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

Jammu recorded a low of 22.0°C against 19.7°C on the previous night. It was 0.3°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 10.0°C, Batote 12.6°C, Katra 19.3°C and Bhadarwah 11.4°C. (GNS)

5G Rollout to be Very Soon, aiming to achieve Pan-India coverage in two years: IT Minister says

5G is the 5th generation mobile network that can transmit an enormous amount of data with a high speed

5G services for telecom in India are expected to be available very shortly and the goal of the government is to cover the entire country in two years, as stated by Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at an event on Sunday.

In mid-August, the government issued spectrum allocation notices to the telecom service providers, soliciting them to plan for the introduction of 5G services.

With this spectrum allocation, India is now in the final stage of rolling out the high-speed 5G communications services.

Reliance Jio has already announced that it will be launching high-speed 5G services by Diwali this year in several major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

In the future, it plans to extend its 5G network to every town, village, and Talukas across the nation in 2023. This will be done by the end of December that’s about 18 months from now.

The sleuths of CBI on Monday carried out raids within Chand Nagar near Jewel in Jammu district to investigate scams involving the J&K Police Sub Inspector recruitment fraud.

The CBI team inspected the home and hotel of the suspect and conducted search operations in the area.

The property was believed to have been utilized in the scam.

It is reported that the operation was carried out after the disclosure of the suspects involved of the fraud.

S&P projects India’s GDP growth at 7.3 pc this fiscal

New Delhi: S&P Global Ratings on Monday projected India’s economic growth at 7.3 per cent in the current fiscal with downside risks and said inflation is likely to remain above RBI’s upper tolerance threshold of 6 per cent till the end of 2022.

In its Economic Outlook for Asia Pacific, S&P said India’s growth next year will get support from domestic demand recovery after the coronavirus pandemic.

We have retained our India growth outlook at 7.3 per cent for the fiscal year 2022-2023 and 6.5 per cent for the next fiscal year, although we see the risks tilted to the downside,” it said.

Other agencies have cut India’s GDP growth forecast amid higher inflation and rising policy interest rates. Earlier this month, Fitch Ratings slashed the growth estimate to 7 per cent for the current fiscal from 7.8 per cent pegged earlier. India Ratings & Research too had reduced its projections to 6.9 per cent from 7 per cent earlier.

Asian Development Bank has cut the projection to 7 per cent from 7.5 per cent earlier.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) expects the Indian economy to grow 7.2 per cent in the current fiscal (April-March). The growth last year (2021-22) was 8.7 per cent.

Indian economy expanded 13.5 per cent in the April-June quarter, sequentially higher than 4.10 per cent growth clocked in the January-March period.

On inflation, S&P Global Ratings pegged the average rate in the current fiscal at 6.8 per cent and projected it to fall to 5 per cent in the next fiscal beginning April 2023.

“India headline Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) is likely to remain outside the Reserve Bank of India’s upper tolerance limit of 6 per cent until the end of 2022. That’s amid substantial weather-induced wheat and rice price increases as well as sticky core inflation. And food inflation may rise again,” it said.

Retail or consumer price inflation has remained above RBI’s upper tolerance threshold of 6 per cent for the eighth month in a row and was at 7 per cent in August. Wholesale price inflation remained in double digits for the 17th straight month and was at 12.41 per cent in August.

According to S&P Global Ratings, elevated core inflation would drive up policy rates further in India, and projected policy interest rates to be 5.90 per cent by the end of this fiscal.

To tame stubbornly high inflation, the central bank has already hiked benchmark interest rates by 1.40 percentage points to 5.40 per cent. In its monetary policy review on September 30, RBI is expected to hike rates by another 50 basis points to a three-year high level of 5.90 per cent.

Ghulam Nabi Azad likely to launch his party Today

The name and symbol of the party are agreed upon and it’s only just a matter of a couple of days before the party can become real on the political map in Jammu as well as Kashmir.

The veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad who ended his five-decade-long relationship with the Congress in the month of September will likely announce his own party within the next couple of days.

“I am inviting the media to join me tomorrow (Monday) ahead of the debut of my party. I’m here to meet leaders and members,” Azad told reporters in a brief interview at his residence on arriving from Delhi.

A close aide of the former J&K chief minister has confirmed the news.

“He is having two back to back separate meetings with senior and second rung leaders later today,” he said, adding Azad is visiting Srinagar on September 27.

He also said that the name and symbol of the party are agreed upon and it’s only just a matter of a couple of days before the party can become real on the political map in Jammu as well as Kashmir.

Azad, 73, quit Congress on the 26th of August The 73-year-old quit Congress on August 26 and called the party “comprehensively destroyed”. Azad also criticised Rahul Gandhi for “demolishing” the party’s entire consultation mechanism.

More than two dozen notable Congress leaders , including the former deputy chief minister Tara Chand, several former legislators and ministers also resigned from the Congress to support Azad. Two former lawmakers, one each from both the PDP along with the Apni party, did the same.

He had earlier stated that the primary goals of his party are the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s status as a state and ensure the land and employment rights of its inhabitants

Two militants were killed in an encounter near the Line of Control in Tekri Nar locality of Machil in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday, police said here.

Kashmir zone police in a Tweet, as per the news agency informed that the identification of the militants was being ascertained.

Police also said that two AK-47 rifles as many pistols and 04 hand grenades were recovered from them.

PM Modi set to gift 5G services to Indians on Oct 1

NEW DELHI: The National Broadband Mission (NBM) under the Ministry of Communications on Saturday tweeted (and later deleted) that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially roll out the 5G services in India on October 1 — the same day when the India Mobile Congress (IMC) kicks off which will heavily focus on 5G and related domains.

All the top telecom honchos — including Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani and Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises Sunil Bharti Mittal — are scheduled to join the keynote address at the sixth edition of the IMC that will take place at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from October 1-4.

“Taking India’s digital transformation & connectivity to new heights, Hon’ble PM, @narendramodi, will roll out 5G services in India; at India Mobile Congress; Asia’s largest technology exhibition,” read the screenshot of the tweet (now deleted from the NBM handle).

The event will see participation from telecom gear manufacturers and other industry stakeholders, in the presence of IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

According to sources, the government may showcase some successful 5G testbeds being run in the country by Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea at the IMC 2022, jointly organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

During his Independence Day address from the ramparts of the Red Fort, the Prime Minister had said that the 5G services will be launched in India soon.

Vaishnaw last month said the government expects 5G services to be rolled out in the country by October 12, and the Centre will make sure that the prices are affordable for the consumers.

Vaishnaw said that installations are being done and telecom operations are busy with the seamless rollout of 5G services.

The government will ensure that the 5G plans remain affordable for the public, the minister said.

The 5G services would be rolled out in a phased manner and during the first phase, 13 cities are likely to get the 5G internet services.

The cities are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune.

Just like 3G and 4G, telcos will soon announce dedicated 5G tariff plans and according to industry experts, consumers may pay more to access the 5G services on their devices.

An immediate tariff war with the launch of 5G is unlikely, but it “will be competitive as India continues to be a price-conscious market”.–(IANS)

Won’t take much time to wipe out all militants: DGP

J&K Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Friday said that a lot has been done to wipe out anti-peace elements, including militants, and it won’t take much time to clear off the remaining ones.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the ‘Pedal For Peace’ event here, the DGP said that there were many thorns in the garden of peace that were removed by police.

“Those remaining will be removed as well and that won’t take much time,” he said.

He said that the Hurriyat and other anti-peace elements used to play a “bloody game” in Kashmir on behalf of their mentors. “Almost all the anti-peace elements have been wiped out and those remaining will be cleared off soon,” Singh said.

He said that Pedal for Peace is not just an event but a move that connects police directly with youth and people.

“There are many such events on cards that include Jashn-e-Dal, Marathon race, and a series of other events,” he said.
About change taking place on the ground, he said that Zainapora area of Shopian paints a different picture today.

“The place was once a hub of militants where militants would openly shoot videos and circulate the same on social media. Today, we have youth there who want a cricket field, dispensary and a cricket academy,” he said.
About youth in downtown Srinagar, he said that he was glad to see them choosing sports and competitive exams as their career.

Replying to a query about the security situation in Kashmir, he said that it has improved a lot in the Valley and today a common man can heave a sigh of relief and breathe openly in free air. KNO
